What stays on the phone
- Last selected sound, app volume, and timer preference.
- Saved room setups: a room label you choose, sound, volume, output route, which iPhone models were used, the reading, and the date. No baby name or birth date is ever requested.
- Whether the free first sleep session has been used.
- The calibration catalog version.
- Founder Laboratory Mode exports when that hidden engineering tool is deliberately unlocked: numeric samples, experiment notes, device/build metadata, and interruption status. No microphone audio.
What the microphone is used for
The Check feature opens the microphone only after you start a check and stops when you stop it or leave the measurement screen. The founder-only Laboratory Mode can also open it during an explicitly started engineering run and may continue while the iPhone is locked or the app is backgrounded so a long experiment is not lost. Samples are converted to numeric A-weighted measurements in memory and discarded. Playback never opens the microphone, and microphone audio is never written or transmitted.
Every field that can cross the two-iPhone link
The two phones connect directly nearby with required encryption, using a one-use six-digit code that expires after ten minutes. Messages are allowlisted, versioned, range-checked, and limited to 4 KB. This is the complete list.
